The Lake Mills Club 55 Senior Center was the vision of a group of Lake Mills residents, led by Carol Burrows, a dedicated Lake Mills volunteer. Initially, this group established a senior gathering place in a church basement in 2016.
As seniors, they wanted a place to meet, to socialize and to keep in touch. This team grew quickly, which lead to the creation of the Lake Mills Club 55 Senior Center, now an accredited senior center program.
Today, as a non-profit entity, Club 55 has expanded its reach throughout Lake Mills and nearby areas, offering programs such as Congregate Dining through Jefferson County Nutrition Services. This purposeful association ensured that seniors could access affordable healthy lunches several days per week. Along with in person dining, a brown bag lunch option rounds out the program providing more options for socialization.
Other programs specifically provided to seniors, their families, and friends are scheduled weekly to ensure healthy lifestyle choices. The Club 55 calendar features exercise classes, social meetups, a kayak club, access to walking programs, and community events such as the senior social circle at the Farmers Market. Several times each week, we organize a coffee and conversation gathering and sponsor local programs enjoyed by older adults. The Club 55 Board of Directors emphasizes collaboration and partnership in Lake Mills to ensure seniors are informed and have access to amenities.
